The European branch of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics deals with issues aimed at improving the quality of life of older persons, as well as research on the ageing of society in the European region.
At the initiative of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, the Executive Committee of the European Branch of the IAGG established the award of the European Branch of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics: "For outstanding scientific achievements in the field of Gerontology". The award is given to European scientists who have made the most significant contribution to the development of gerontology in three categories: Biology, Clinical Gerontology, Social and Behavioral Sciences.
In 2011 V.Kh. Khavinson was elected the President of the European section of the nternational Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics and held this post until 2015.
Since 2019 and to the present V.Kh. Khavinson holds the position of the Treasurer of the European Section of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The current President of the IAGG-ER is Prof. Mario Barbagallo.
