The International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that promotes gerontological research and training and represents gerontological organizations internationally. The IAGG is currently represented by 84 National Societies from 72 countries. IAGG partners with: United Nations Program on Ageing, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Population Fund and other UN agencies, World Health Organization Ageing and Life Path Program.
In April 2009, by decision of the Council of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, the IAGG Collaborating Center on the basis of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology was established in St. Petersburg.
On July 6, 2009, at the meeting of the Council of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics in Paris (France), within the framework of the XIX World Congress on Gerontology and Geriatrics, the certificate of the IAGG Collaborating Center was awarded to the Director of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, Professor V.Kh. Khavinson. In turn, Professor V.Kh. Khavinson presented the activity plan of the IAGG Collaborating Center for the period of its work from April 2009 to March 2013.
The tasks of the Collaborating Center include the organization of educational scientific programs and trainings, support and cooperation with similar centers in other regions, the development of international and educational activities, preparation and publication of specialized information materials.
